Based on your experience with GT Architecture, what do you think?

Please include your connection with Tech too.

GOOD: GPA, class rank, rigor, ECs
OK: ACT (Your math score is low. Try getting a 31+)

I’d say you’re a match.

Graduated from GT last semester in 3.5 years.

If you dont mind me asking, was Georgia Tech good about establishing a job connection for you or helping you rather?

That is the only thing that I am concerned about with Georgia Tech Architecture. Was it easy for you to find a job? Again, if you dont mind me asking.

You can reply privately back to me as well.

Thanks

I think you will get in. You might have to do summer session though.

What is your unweighted GPA?

Also, is that AP Physics B or C? And does your school offer AP Calc? Are those expected AP’s through senior year or just AP’s through junior year (and if the latter, what will you take senior year)?

Arteck1993: How are you in state for Ga Tech when you previously posted that you are in state for Clemson?

ilyssa1257: What is summer session?

BanjoHitter: I think it is 3,78, (+ or - .02)
We only offer Physics B. We have a terrible AP Cal program, so I switched out of it. I am senior…

somewhereinga: My parents are divorced, and my dad resides in Georgia.

It was epicly stupid of you to switch out of AP Calc, but you should still be fine w/ that GPA. Summer session = Summer semester classes (shorter time span, less classes, more hours per week per class).

SLightManifesto: Last year, 2 out of 13 AP Cal AB students at my high school passed the exam. They only made 3’s. Btw, only seniors take AP Calculus. I don’t even know if GT will except a 3. Secondly, my friend who goes to GT (Aerospace) told me to take Calc 101 regardless, because you will be lost in the more advanced calculi due to the style of teaching and etc. He made a 5 on his AP Calculus BC exam. So even if I had passed, I would have taken it again. Thirdly, I am plan to work in France and to minor in French, so I took a fourth year of French in lieu of AP Cal. I think that was the smarter decision, personally.

It doesn’t matter if you get a 1 on the AP Calc exam - what matters for admission is that you took AP Calc - GT will not know or ask for your score for admissions purposes. STEM colleges highly favor students that have taken AP Calc and you decreased your chances of admission by transferring out.

As far as retaking Math 1501, that’s fine. But it’s a much easier class if you’ve already taken AP Calc (you can decline credit even if you pass the exam).

As far as taking French, you can take it in college.

BanjoHitter: That’s a great point… I still disagree, because it was my decision to drop AP Calculus ( one block semester of that class was enough). Maybe I did decrease my chances of admission. I have notified GT of my change in intended schedule, so we will see what they think next Friday on Buzzport. Ultimately, they have the final say.

FYI, It’s not like I don’t know what a derivative is. Calculus is only used by engineers, calculus professors/teachers, and people ripping off Americans and the SEC on Wall Street. That’s why the #1 Architecture School in the Country… doesn’t include Calculus in their curriculum.

Also, I have a One-Time French Citizen/MENSA Member for a French teacher.

You have a very bad attitude. No matter what anyone says, you know more than we do, right?

BanjoHitter: I think that you are the one with the “very bad attitude”. What is your connection with Georgia Tech anyway? Do you attend? You act like you do.

On another blog post, you told someone "You won’t get in with that SAT unless you’re being recruited for Tennis.” How demeaning is that to tell someone who has worked their butt off in school, like most everyone on this website. So now I am thinking, “you know more than we do, right?”

Artek, I think you are greatly missing the point here - it’s not about what you will use in life. We’re talking about objective college admissions here where it’s more about showing off. If you successfully show off, you will gain that opportunity to pursue what you want (ie: French) at a great school that will open up opportunities everywhere for you.

As for him saying the SAT/tennis thing, he’s just being brutally honest. Would you rather have an honest opinion and then find out you get rejected or get a false opinion of easy acceptance only to get rejected?

Why even ask for a chance if you just want everyone’s opinions candy coated?

I agree with the showing off part, you are absolutely right. It probably would have looked better to have stayed in AP Calculus, but I had my reasons that I explained previously. Also I would like to state that I don’t post stuff to show off on the blog, I post to get answers from people with experience at the respective university inorder to gain insight to aid my decision. E.g. anthlonx2 clearly acknowledged his connection with Tech. If you are on here to be a “hater” like KNOWITALL***** hilariously stated, then you shouldn’t be on here. That’s not candy-coating. Anthlonx2 is an alumnus and he said positive things, so naturally I go with his educated opinion that is “candy coated” rather than a comment from someone not affiliated with GT that says “epicly stupid decision”.

Your pathetic attempt at creating a ■■■■■ account to boost the number of people supporting you to two had me laughing pretty hard. Unfortunately artek, you + you still equals one person. The fact that you acknowledged him as a separate poster is equally hilarious.

Also, BanjoHitter, more often than not, happens to post very intelligent and accurate things on these boards since I’ve been viewing them.

Now, if you’ve made it this far without scrambling to type something that you think is witty, I’m glad you’re taking the time to read:

My cousin attends Georgia Tech, and even she says dropping AP Calculus is a “very poor decision” to make. It would have helped you more had you just stuck with it, no matter what grade you got. GT likes to see the most rigorous schedule your particular high school has available.

In any event, I’d say your weighted GPA looks good, although it’s hard to tell since weighting can skew things considerably. Your ACT could definitely be higher, but it’s good enough. I would say you have a decent shot at admission, but you’re far from a lock.

As a final note, you should know that your statement about the uses of calculus is fairly incomplete. For instance, biologists can use differential equations to model the spread of a disease through a population using calculus.

That poster is 16 and now knows to retake the SAT.

First of all guys, I don’t ■■■■■ because I didn’t list College Confidential as one of my extracurriculars. That’s lame and I don’t have 500+ posts.

Indestructible…whatever: Thanks for stating your connection with Georgia Tech, of what major is your cousin?

I can tell you like calculus, but architects never use calculus because it is the study of how to do what a TI-89 does. It is obsolete, unless you are a professor or biologist trying to figure out differential equations. More me, Calculus is useless. Einstein didn’t believe in learning curricula that isn’t of use to someone personally… wasted brain cells. That’s why the #1 School in the country doesn’t include Calculus 101 in their B.Arch program.

Did you get into Georgia Tech?

You evidently know nothing about Calculus or Architecture. One day you’ll grow up and learn that the world is bigger than you think.

I haven’t been accepted yet, artek. My stats aren’t necessarily reflective of what I’m capable of since I messed around my first two years of high school. I hope last year and my semester one grades make up for it though.

I’m astounded at your ability to determine SlightManifesto’s social life through the internet! Is there any way you could teach me?
