Getting around

Hi all!
I start classes as a transfer in the Fall. I was on campus yesterday and parked in the welcome center garage as that's the only place I knew that I was allowed to park. I ended up hoofing it quite a ways to where I needed to be and would have gotten lost if it weren't for all the nice students who saw me with a map and pointed me in the right direction (that and the walking option on my phone gps.). Now I'm really concerned about how I'm going to find my way around when I start classed. I don't do preview until August 20th, so I won't know what classes I'm in or where they are until the day before. I'm guessing that parking on campus is a nightmare, so I was going to park at a park and ride lot and take a bus to campus. Problem is that I don't understand the bus routes. How does parking work on campus? Are there student parking lots? Is there any way to know where the closest lot is to where my classes are? I'm an Agricultural Education major...don't know if the majority of my classes will be close together or not. I thought about bringing a bike and leaving it locked up on campus someplace. My car is not big enough to transport it back and forth every day. Sigh...any helpful tips would be appreciated. I'm really freaking out right now lol.

If you have a smartphone, download the TransLoc app. It’ll show you the active bus routes at any given moment, and let you track the buses. Eventually, you’ll memorize which ones you need to take.

Parking at UF kinda sucks. Based on your housing situation, status as a student, and credit hours earned, you’ll be assigned a certain decal. Here’s a partial list of decals with eligibility and prices: TAPS;

You can locate your classrooms using UF’s online campus map:
[UF Campus Map](http://campusmap.ufl.edu/)
You’ll learn the most important buildings soon enough. If you need help in the meantime, the Google Maps app is your friend. It shows all buildings on the main campus.
Here you can also see which decals correspond to certain parking lots. Never reverse park in an angled spot, never park on a line, don’t misuse a decal (parking in an unauthorized lot/space) or use someone else’s. UPD is very anal about these things and will ticket for the smallest mistakes.
There are bike racks all over campus, so it may be a smart decision to use one. However, I prefer a car, since I’ll have to go shopping on occasion, or if I wanna go out with friends to a place that doesn’t border the campus.

Thanks for the great tips! I went to apply for a parking pass and I would get the park and ride and it costs $154! I’m already going to be spending 10-12 dollars a day on gas getting back and forth (I’m commuting 45 miles each way). I’ll have to find out about lots off campus that I can park in and take the bus in. I read on the GTA site that there is one at a Walmart. I’ll have to look around the site some more. I really wish I knew my schedule sooner so I could plan my routes. I hope the instructors are forgiving of tardies on the first day because I’m bound to get lost. My preview isn’t until the day before classes start. I will definitely be downloading those apps! Thanks!
