I know there are already generic threads on CC about shipping stuff to college, but I wondered what Stanford-specific advice people might have. For example, would the university's mail center store boxes for a few days for incoming students? Is the Bed, Bath & Beyond still well-stocked in mid-September if you do the order-at-home-and-pick-up-at-store-nearest-your school thing? Do you store your stuff over the summer months, and if so, where? I would imagine you'd at least need to store your bike if nothing else? Are there campus shuttles which stop at the Target/BB&B? Any hints would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The Marguerite (free campus bus) goes out to the Target and Walmart, according to D. Check the housing page for information about shipping boxes and timing etc. No idea on the Bed Bath and Beyond. We did our shopping at home and then drove everything to campus.

I cannot stress enough how thankful you will be if you utilize the BB& B order at home option. It is incredible. Everything is packed up and ready to go when you get to the BB&B in Mountain View, which is about 10 minutes or so from Stanford. We used BB&B (and Best Buy for the mini fridge) but waited until we got to school to pick up certain items. The stores were wiped out of the items students commonly need to set up a dorm room – for example, there was not a desk lamp or bike to be found at Target or WalMart. You can order your bike ahead of time through the campus bike shop or just go to one of the many local bike shops who will be selling a bike every 7 seconds to a Stanford student. I know that Stanford does offer a storage option. They give you a certain number of boxes, you pack them and they will pick them up and store them as well as specific other items such as microwaves and bikes. The price depends on how much you need to store. I’m sorry, I can’t offer any info about the transportation to get to the stores; we had a rental car.
