Getting C in Masters

Is getting C in masters considered really bad? How could that affect your job hunt. Does the fact that I am from a top tier university alleviate the problem a little? What if I graduate with GPA of 3.09, will that be good for job hunt if I am from a top 10 program in engineering?

Also will this affect my chances of going to a good B school like stanford or columbia?

I don’t know about where you go, but I’m pretty sure where I go anything less than a B- is considered not passing for graduate degrees. Going off of that, I’m viewing a C for a graduate degree to be equivocal to getting a D or D- in undergrad. I’m not sure if that means anything outside of the context of the school though.

It depends on the school since grade inflation is higher at some schools than others. Technically, a C is considered average and shouldn’t be viewed too negatively.

Grad programs have specific GPA requirements. While a “C” is acceptable in undergrad, it is usually considered unacceptable in grad school. Many require a 3.0 in order to remain in the program.

Thanks for the response. But what does it mean in terms of job hunt? Will it look very bad? Will employers ask for transcripts?

Probably, so they can verify GPA.
