I live in an off campus apartment where we pay for internet, electricity, and heat. Anyway, our internet plan for the first six months was $45 and after that its supposed to be $60. I got the bill today for the internet and I guess are first six months are up. I read about people call their cable company threatening to cancel their service as a tactic to keep a promotional price for longer. I was wondering if anyone has tried doing this. We would ideally only need it until june.

Call, ask if they have any discounts or promotions they can apply, when they say no tell 'em you’d like to cancel your service.

Works best on Comcast.

Some services offer college discounts. Like mention you’re a student and I know some providers cut your bill down.

Do you have a DSL provider in the area? They’re a good tool.

It’s clear that you’re genuinely unhappy about your bill and would like to pay less. That’s good enough of an excuse for them if you show them that you will cancel unless they do something about it.

It’s very costly for them to acquire a customer, so they lose much less money by cutting huge chunks off your bill than by losing you. This is especially true for Cable companies, where individual customers doesn’t really affect their net cost.
