Getting Classes at SMC

Any SMC students out there, do you think it'd be impossible to get my classes now?

My seminar is on the 24th of August, and I'd only be able to sign up after that date...

I know... It's very VERY late, but the office lost my app for a while, so my I-20 arrived late.

I need to take Calculus or Stat, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology...

Do you think I'll be able to get any of these classes?

I'm an international student so I HAVE TO enroll in at least 12 units.

I just don't want to take bogus classes that won't help me transfer. :P

Thanks in advance for any comments.

since no one is biting atm ill just throw in something…

i dont know how competitive it is at SMC to get classes but assuming that its like most CC’s its extremely competitive.

since you have a late registration date id assume that you wont be getting those specific classes…esp such impacted ones.

math, science, and english tend to fill up within the first week. if you get on the waitlist there is a chance of getting into those classes otherwise its tough.

i suggest you try to waitlist anyway but still register for w/e is transferrable like a GE or something.

the classes that tend to not fill up or are adding are social sciences and no name GE’s (like history of jazz or music appreciation)
once you have a semester of units you should join the scholars program/honors program because supposedly SMC gives honors students priority registration and by then you will have a much easier time getting those classes you desire. :)

Thanks Dainese! :)

I guess I’ll just have to take settle for other classes this semester.

I heard that getting classes would be hard, but I did not expect that even Botany and Italian would be filled up. I’ve officially checked every available class now and am stuck with computer applications and soccer for the moment.

Hopefully I can get a few necessary classes in this semester.

im pretty confident you will get GE classes…but it wont be easy. and wow…italian got filled up? lol.

patience…haha

classes usually open the night before the semester begins. good luck!
