Getting classes

Hey upperclassmen,

What are our chances on getting the classes we want? I know it depends on major, but I was just wondering. By the way i'm majoring in psych.

You’re an upperclassman yourself or you’re an underclassman asking upperclassmen?

Last year I was a 2nd year majoring in business econ and I found it REALLY easy to get all my classes. However, I took a lot of upper div econ courses in freshman and soph year, so I basically qualified to take more advanced classes that had several upper div pre-reqs. So it also depends on how many pre-reqs and upper div classes you’ve completed.

Midnight I was wondering if you could tell me the classes you took your freshmen year. It’d be a nice blueprint for business economics majors ^^

I had a pretty hard time getting classes I wanted.
I’m a bio major, BTW.
For example, when I should have been taking Math 11A, I got a late sign up time, and the class was full, so now I’m a quarter behind on my math stuff.
I also didn’t get the chem class I wanted, so I ended up with a crap professor and struggled a little more in the next chem class.
Getting good GE classes was hit or miss. At summer orientation last year, I got all the classes I wanted, but the next quarter, I didn’t get the GE I wanted.
You really do have to plan ahead and anticipate not getting all the classes you want. Spend a good amount of time on the class search and make sure you have backups.

Is getting classes hard for computer engineering major?

@Cross: I actually wouldn’t suggest my freshman year course load because I was planning on fulfilling my requirements for the 3-2 Dual Engineering program with Berkeley and I took a lot of unnecessary engineering math/physics classes that econ students really don’t need at all. Also I took 4-5 classes a quarter so I could finish my program in 2 years and not 3. For that reason, here are some classes I took freshman year if I removed all my GE’s and engineering classes (basically business econ reqs).

Math 23A, Econ 2, CMPE 80N, Econ 10A, Econ 100B, Econ 100A.

I’m a bio major as well. So far I haven’t had any problem signing up for an math, bio or chem courses. It only good GE’s that I have trouble signing up for because they fill up quickly. I would say have plenty of backups ready just in case.

psych classes are pretty hard to get into. get yourself on waitlists and crash courses. but always have a full schedule even if its GEs and classes that you don’t need for your major. because classes get full fast.

Aww shiieet… Thanks though. Hopefully I could get some… Damn. I should have chose the first orientation day.

Thanks again :)

so if i plan to sign up for math, core course, and one GE class. Does that mean I am only able to sign up for that GE class during the orientation?

@Daydreamer81, Are there any GE courses you’d like to recommend? (:

There are so many different subjects and courses, it’s hard to make up my mind on which I want to take (and courses that would fulfill most GE requirements).

ryanpan, you should be able to sign up for core at orientation as well unless for some reason you didn’t take the writing placement exam when you were supposed to.

If you have high enough AP calc scores or have taken a college math course before then you would be able to enroll in math as well, if not then you have to wait until you take your placement exam.

No, the letter said that we are suppose to sign up for core at September.

Oh, that’s silly. I signed up for mine during orientation. Sorry

@Snowbee I don’t really have any recommendations as I have only taken 1 GE’s course which was Human Genome it is a very easy class homework the test only counted for 50% and as long as you did all the homework and research paper and put in the effort and get at least a C on the test there isn’t a reason why you won’t get a good grade.

Female Physiology is a good one. I wanted to get into that last quarter but couldn’t cuz it was packed.

Any prerequisites for female physio? I was under the impression that human physiology/anatomy required some sort of bio courses beforehand.
