Getting credit for AP Languages (especially Latin)

According to Cornell's AP Policy page, all language APs require a dempartmental examination to get credit. So how do their tests compare to the APs? (especially the Latin one, which is the language I'm studying) Does this basically mean that taking AP languages tests is essentially pointless?

easy if you remember stuff over the summer. i did better in spanish than i did in french, even though i had more schooling. probably because i took french first and knew what to expect

Great. But essentially, this is the same as saying "no credit given for AP language tests," correct?

let's just say cornell is very hardcore in languages, especially for intro classes. my boyfriend started intro french at cornell, and was fluent by junior year...and by fluent, he was thinking, dreaming, and sometimes responding to people in french...
