So I'm currently on the school tennis team and I was just wondering how bad it would look if I stopped my senior year without ever making it to varsity. I want to stay, but there's just so much new competition. The three years I was here I was very involved, I got MVP freshman year, and three years of being a manager for the guys team. I've been dedicated but sometimes life just doesn't go your way. I was just wondering if colleges would see this as quitting (since they can't know the details) or they would allow for unexpected circumstances and just be happy I was very involved for three years?

You seem to like tennis very much, but you ought not to worry about what colleges think. In fact, I don’t think colleges will make a big deal out of this situation unless you emphasize it.

I advise you to be aware of this mindset - when you start panicking about how colleges will view your actions (unless you’re skipping class and falling from an A to a C, then you shouldn’t worry).

Sounds like it could be the basis of a very inspiring essay.

People’s interests and abilities change; so their activities do also.
It would only look bad if you didn’t do anything else of value with your newly available time.

Don’t give “how it would look” a second thought. Most colleges in this country admit based on grades and scores.

For highly selective colleges that weigh ECs, just being a member of the varsity is going to count for squat. And in case you’re wondering about those selective schools… There is a thread with comments by Northstarmom, a Ivy alum interviewer, about what constitutes impressive ECs from the point of view of the most selective colleges. The post is at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/210497-those-ecs-weak-so-what-s-good.html

Lots of kids are getting cut from the sports team in Senior year from what I’ve heard from their parents. As long as you didn’t quit. Can you explain somewhere in the activities section.
