If someone were to get deferred to RD and then get accepted, how inconvenient is that for them? It cannot be too bad since a lot of people do apply to college RD obviously, or else it would not exist… Still though, I would assume you would be at a disadvantage in terms of housing at least? Would other colleges demand you to accept admission prior to RD decisions rolling out if you’ve been given a scholarship there? I’m basically trying to get a feel for how disastrous it would really be if I got deferred in the coming days. Thank you!
You wouldn’t be at a disadvantage for housing, but you will be for scholarships. I was accepted on Feb. 5th, and all my friends who were accepted EA got $1,500 scholarships. It’s pretty small compared to the total cost, but it would’ve been nice. Also, unless it’s ED, colleges will never demand you accept a spot until national college decision day on May 1st.
@whizkid98 Even if you have a scholarship? I was reading an old thread for some college on here (I have never been able to find it again) and some girl was really torn between waiting out a decision (and or taking a scholarship she had lined up at another school (which she would have lost if she waited to hear back from her 1st choice college).
If what you’re saying is true, then maybe she had gotten wait-listed and that is what I am recalling, as opposed to being differed and waiting to hear back at RD roll-outs.
I suppose there are particular scholarships that require you to respond by a particular date. For the most part it isn’t that common though.
Zero difference other than anxiety…
@HRSMom Okay thank you!
Keep the faith!!
Not at all disastrous. You are catastrophizing. No difference in housing or anything else. The vast majority of admitted students at UM are admitted during the RD round, not during the EA round.
