Getting emails from admissions...

I've gotten a few emails from UCLA admissions about sending them unofficial transcripts via fax. I'm kind of confused, I thought we were supposed to give them transcripts after we were accepted? What does this mean?

That could be a good thing?

Requesting for an unofficial transcript sounds more like a sign that they want to see how you performed in a certain sequence or class for winter quarter and if you're on track for spring quarter. Otherwise, there is no real point to an unofficial and they would have requested official.

One thing is for sure, you're being considered and there is a lot of attention your application.

Seems unusual, did you update your courses (IP and planned) online in January?

Yea, I updated everything in Jan and when there were any changes to my schedule, I informed them immediatly. I'm majoring in Japanese, could they be checking on my progress?

May be they are verfifying what you reported on your application cuz they randomly pick a few applicants to verify...

what are your stats coolmod.

You aren't required to submit the winter grade since it's officially part of the spring.

Mschop has a very good point. You may possibly be border line and UCLA wants to make sure if you're taking the courses you said you would. If you're not taking the classes you claimed you were, then you might sacrifice your admittance.

How is winter officially part of spring? The update form allows you to input intersessions.

I think they are probably doing a verification as kevin101 suggested, verification of what the self-reported academic history.

Your grade for winter is calculated in with your spring grades. On your official transcript, it shows the winter grade, but is not figured into your overall gpa until the end of spring. As far as updating it, it is not required...at least it does not say it needs to be on the UC application. It only specifically addresses the fall grades.

If you know differently, that the UC applicaiton specifically requests winter grades, please let me know...even though I will serious freak out since I declined to report mine.

The UC update asks you (for each school) whether it is quarter, semester or semester with intersession. If you took classes/or planned to in the intersession you were supposed to choose semester with intersession. Then it gave you spaces to list the classes for winter.

Right, but does that mean you are technically supposed to report the grade you got in the class? I just kept it as IP because I did not actually know my grade until after Feb 15.

You are supposed to send everyone any information you have, any update. Berkeley for instance asks that you continue to update well past the deadline if there are any changes--obviously from IP to a grade is a change.

But winter grades are normally not factored in, so I don't think it's a big deal.

My stats are 3.36 for all my transferable classes and I got A's in everything japanese related. And the email I got from the admissions person said that I have to fax my transcripts by a certain date (by tuesday) and if I didn't, then they would assume that I wasn't interested in UCLA anymore.

I hope you are right about "I don't think it's a big deal". I feel really nervous now..I did find out my grade for winter shortly after the 15th, but I got a B :( I figured that would take away from the straight As I received since last summer even thought it would not technically be factored into my gpa. I just hate the way Bs look.

Most colleges tell you if they want winter grades, but i've only seen colleges say to send your grades after you've been accepted. I'm really nervous right now, these emails could be a multitude of things...ugh

I'm a CE (or EECS) major and got an email from Berkeley about two weeks ago, and they wanted my winter grades and spring schedule (@UCSD). I had a 3.82 cumulative prior to winter quarter and received a 3.93 for winter quarter. I suspect that I'm at the borderline, and that's why they wanted my grades(?). My other friends that also applied to CAL didn't receive such an email. They have a similar GPA as mines but applied to less competitive majors. I don't know what any of this means, but I just hope I am still being considered to receive admissions. Anyways, good luck everyone.

Hrm, that would make sense, I would suspect that Japanese isn't a very competitive major :-P

I have received nothing from UCLA since I applied :X
