Getting fed up with ASU

DD applied August 9th. Was told a week later when we were out there for a tour and info session she would hear within 4 - 6 weeks. This was repeated to her by an admissions rep she spoke to privately while out there. We are now into the middle of October and have heard nothing. She called to try and find out if there was anything more she could send them and the person she spoke to was quite abrupt with her and did not want to even hear her question. She then emailed the rep she spoke with who had told her to email her with any questions and she has heard nothing back. I realize this is a very busy time at all colleges but this has made her rethink her wanting to go there. Has anyone who applied early gotten a decision? We are out of state so don’t know if instaters hear first. Thanks for letting me vent!

My son, also OOS, applied online about three weeks ago. We just got a letter saying that he has been admitted to ASU. He still has to audition in the music program, but at this point, he’s been accepted into the general university program. Shortly after he applied, he got an email saying his app was “in review”. Has she checked her “My ASU” account? It could be that if she is applying to a certain major, it may take longer (like Business, Journalism, Engineering, Nursing…) There must be an explanation, but clearly her situation is frustrating…All the best.

She has logged into her account multiple times a day. The most frustrating part is the lack of help she is getting from anyone there. She feels if this is the way they handle students who are applying, then it must carry through to other areas of the school once admitted. She has wanted to go to ASU since she was 12! Not so much anymore.

I’m part of the student admissions relations team and first I’d like to personally apologize for any difficulty you’ve had with the application. I work in undergraduate admissions twice a week, and one of the side effects of being one of the nation’s largest universities is human error on some applications. It took almost 9 weeks for me to get my decision last year when I applied, I’d give it another week or so and if it doesn’t come then try undergraduate admissions again. UGA is huge and chances are you hit someone on an off day.

ASU is a good school and there are many good students attending. There are parties in other colleges as well.

That was not necessary, vincenzo. Show me a large university where kids don’t party.

I think that it was meant to be in jest. I found it funny at least :)

I doubt it was made in jest, especially since it was his first post. Makes no difference to me what others think of the school. However, at this point due to not being able to get an answer from anyone there and emails not being returned, the school is basically off my daughters list. Having gone through the whole college thing with three kids now, the lack of communication from ASU is a first for me. My kids were always able to get an answer to any questions they had about applying and within a timely manner.

Sorry to hear that, but best of luck nonetheless to your daughter.

Peg, I sent you a private message, please let me know if it helps.
