Getting fired from a campus job

So, I was working at the front desk of my dorm hall and I gotta say I LOVED IT! LOVED IT from the front time I moved in and applied and got the job.

About an hour ago, I was fired cause.

1) Because I missed a shift on Wednesday
2)I rang myself out for a soda and put the money in the register myself
3)The mail was not done and someone claimed to have called me and asked me to do it for them because they were sick.

I missed my shift on Wednesday because I have bronchitis and on Tuesday the doctor prescribed some cough medicine with codeine in it so I could sleep. I slept through my shift. I've never missed a shift before.

I rang myself up on the register because the person working at the time for some reason doesn't like me. I barely talk to them or involve myself with them because they gossip, judge and talk about people behind their backs. He seen me waiting for him to ring me up but he rolled his eyes at me and sat down. I had a final to study for and it was 1am. After I bought my soda he went to our student boss and told her what I did, she related that to our boss who later addressed me for it.

I didn't take anyone's shift but since he claims i did and the mail didnt get done, its my fault.

If you have read my other post in the parent cafe you would know the issues Im going through here. They said that my personal issues were making me unfix to serve my dorm hall and thats why they we're giving me the option to resign and not be terminated.

My boss wrote me a long later stating everything that had happen but in the letter it made everything sound so very intensional, even the medication that I took for my own good since I haven't slept in a week because of my coughing and uncomfortable throat drainage (I know gross).

After they informed me that I was being let go, I cried, I cried a lot because I loved my job and because I have gone through so much trying to pay my housing alone to be able to work for them because its amazing. They do have other issues they haven't addressed that go way beyond what I did. I haven't done anything else wrong this all happened in a matter of 3 days and I was let go for it.

I wrote my boss an email stating how i felt about the letter wording sounding like I just didn't show regard for my job because like he said "it's the end of the year". i did thank him for having me as a employee.

I just don't understand why out of everyone who does it and everything else that goes on at the front desk, why was I targeted? And why was my personal problems brought up when I didn't let it interfere with my job? so much for kicking someone in the face when their down.

honestly, we're all too far removed from the situation to really know what happened. usually, though, when someone is let go like this, it's not for one thing or one short string of things but for a long-standing problem -- perhaps one you were not aware of (not that that's ok to not confront you immediately, but it does happen!)
also, the fact that you and this cashier have a poor relationship is a bit of a warning sign to me and makes me wonder why that may have occurred. Finally, why did your student supervisor not approach you directly about the issue after hearing about it? when I was a student supervisor or managed as a part time manager, I always went to my employees first if I heard an issue and if it could be settled at that level (and my bosses have always encouraged that). Usually, things only escalate if your immediate (i.e., student) supervisor cannot handle the issue for whatever reason.

They probably actually fired you for being so whiney.

Ah, welcome to the real world. I had a campus job, I'm not too sure if I was fired or not, they just said they had to 'let me go'(basicly fired, right?). But I got to that point due to accidentily slighting a permanent staff member(some 40 year old guy) who had taken up leadership in the area(I changed hours and he assumed it was so I wouldn't have to work with him[he mentioned 'he knew the real reason' in the email], whereas it was really to better fit my schedule). In all fairness, I probably should've followed up with complaints on his nonprofessional behavior, as well as other things, which lead me to being let go. Hence the real world part, some people are dicks, but it could have all been prevented(well maybe) if you followed up real fast with explanations to your mistakes. I thought there was usually a warning for getting fired too, but like I said, welcome to the real world.

Thank you for your repur Chuy, your very wise.

Yeah I agree, maybe there was something else. But I was unaware of it. I worked hard and went out of my way for students who needed partcular things. I took people's shifts who had things to do just to help out. They gave me the option of resigning so I took that so I hope to just work at another dorm (no store at the front desk, that hall was the only one).

if it makes you feel any better, at least you know you're competent and capable of getting/handling other jobs. Right now I work at an ice cream place and I'm HORRIBLE. Recently, they keep calling to say I shouldn't come in because they're not too busy, I know its somewhat cold but I wonder if this is a warning sign...
