I am 35 years old, I currently hold a B.S. in Economics and just started a second B.S in Industrial Engineering here at Iowa State University, I should graduate in about two and a half years.

Although I just started here, I have senior status because of my credits from my first degree, so I went to the Iowa State University Engineering Job Fair yesterday just to check it out( I am not looking for a job yet)

The fact that I will have 2 degrees, real work experience(worked in Finance as well as IT) and being a bit older and more mature than my peers. Would it work to my advantage or how would employers or recruiters see somebody like myself?

I am also fluent in Portuguese and Spanish also-so these language skills have always helped me getting jobs. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I am doing the same thing as you. Literally.

I am 31, have a previous BA in Psychology, and will be graduating from my BSIE program (NCSU) in Dec '14. I have previous military experience as well. Being older has definitely helped in all aspects. When it comes to studies, the younger students have a lot more distractions. I am pretty disciplined about it and am pulling a 4.0 without ever studying after 4pm. Career fairs have been great. Last time I got at least 6+ interviews and I am currently on my first internship with a fortune 300 company in Atlanta. Job prospects seem great too, but I will let you know for sure in December of next year, haha.

Thanks for your reply, Chuck! You made me feel better about what I am doing and it is nice to see more people in the same situation. When I told my boss I was going back to school to get a second degree in IE-he thought I was out of my mind. Now I realize it was probably one of the best things I have ever done. Good luck!

The guy sitting across from me right now got his BSEE at age 35. He had 18 interviews and got 17 job offers. A proven work history, even if it is not in the exact field, is desirable to people making hiring decisions.
