getting from Emory to Georgia Tech

Hi, I'm going to be visiting Emory and Georgia Tech with a friend. Can anyone tell me how to get around using public transportation and what my options would be? Best area of Atlanta to stay in also would be helpful.
Thanks,
Josh

There are three options I can think of for public transit:

Taxi - about $20 for both of you
This option is obvious, but it’s the easiest. It would probably take about 20 minutes.

Georgia Tech / Emory Shuttle - free
GT has a shuttle that runs between Tech and Emory ([Emory Shuttle](http://pts.gatech.edu/ride/Pages/EmoryShuttle.aspx)) You’ll probably want to call and ask if they’ll let you use it as a non-student, though. It shouldn’t be a problem. 30 minutes.

MARTA - $4 for both of you
MARTA is the Atlanta public transit system. There are two subway stations near Tech (North Avenue is the closest). However, there are no subway stations near Emory, so you will need to switch to bus service.

From Tech to Emory: Go to the football stadium (North and Techwood). From there walk east along North over the interstate for three blocks until you reach West Peachtree. Enter the subway station and board any train that is Northbound. Get off at Lindbergh Station (3 stops) and take the #6 Emory bus. Ask the bus driver to stop in Emory Village. About 30 to 45 minutes, depending on whether you have to wait for the train or bus.

Trains leave every 10 minutes, buses leave every 15 minutes on weekdays and 45 minutes on weekends. Check the schedule at itsmarta.com

thanks a bunch. GT/Emory Shuttle sounds like the best option if it can work.

Do you think a good midpoint would be to stay in the downtown/midtown area?

Call them (phone number at the bottom of that page) and ask if they’ll let you ride it. I’ve seen people do it before, so it shouldn’t be an issue, but you want to check.

Where to stay depends on what you’re looking for. The midpoint is Virginia Highlands, but I wouldn’t stay there without a car. Instead, either stay at Tech or Emory and take public transit back/forth to the other.

Near Tech, the GT Hotel is really convenient and affordable. It gets busy during game days, though. There’s also a Renaissance hotel and Hotel Indigo within walking distance. Those are the nicest options if you can find them reasonably cheap. There’s a Hampton Inn across the street from Tech Tower that’s a little run down but still close and a Courtyard Marriott on 14th Street that’s a little bit of a hike, but only a few blocks away.

Near Emory, the best place to stay is at the Emory Inn.

Something else: if you’re coming during a home football game, hotels around Tech will probably be full and really overpriced. If that’s the case, you can stay in Buckhead near Lenox mall. There are a ton of hotels there that are fairly affordable and it’s within walking distance of the Buckhead MARTA station.

i think i’m going to test my luck with a random hotel midtown. Midtown is where GT’s main campus is located right? Then i’ll walk or get around to GT first, then take the shuttle to Emory and back.

edit and there’s no game when im going.

Yes, GT’s campus is in midtown. I highly recommend staying in the GT hotel if there’s no game.
