gomestar: You can always take the AirTrain to the subway for $7 each way including subway fare from JFK, but it's sort of a time consuming trip(takes around an hour to get there from manhattan with a transfer).

Here is all the travel info you'll need:

thanks! but...i'm flying in from san francisco area. and flights to nyc area is cheaper and all my flights to syracuse all need to be transferred there so I was hoping I could save some money just by going on the shuttle. instead of flying to nyc, transferring to syracuse, and then another shuttle to ithaca. I guess there's just no way around the cost of traveling! haha. =]

$5 AirTrain
$5 Long Island Rail Road one way off peak ticket from Jamaica to Penn Station ($7 for peak, $3 on the weekends with CityTicket)
$2 A, C, or E train uptown for one stop, or you can just walk.

just a mom- yea the cross bronx can be bad but i drove up friday morning and it only took me about 20 min in stop and go traffic. if you get to the right side it goes quicker because that is the lane that feeds into the lower level of the GW which trucks can't go on

Password: I agree with "mikesown" - flying into Syracuse and taking the shuttle to Cornell is the way to go (even if you have to transfer planes to get to Syracuse). I like the Ithaca airport but it is too sensitive to weather... when it works, it's the best - however they have many delays.

I see you're from San Jose. To give you an example of how far JFK is from Ithaca - if you were to drive directly from JFK to Ithaca - it's about the same distance/time as if you were to drive directly from San Jose to Santa Barbara. Of course, you won't be driving directly - you have to get to Port Authority and wait for a bus, deal with NYC area traffic, etc... your day will be incredibly long and tiring.
