there was an idea on another thread that may help those who have not made flights yet…if you offset the Tues of Thanksgiving flight with the flight back in January and offset the Sunday of Thanksgiving flight (back to ELon) with the flight home in December, apparently this saves $$$; it is legal because you will be using both halves of each round trip (albeit from different reservations)…

i.e. RT #1: RDU-EWR Tuesday of Thanksgiving
EWR-RDU January ??? (after winter break)

RT #2: EWR-RDU SUnday of Thanksgiving
RDU-EWR December ??? after finals…

If you are from the NY/NJ/PA area, Southwest Air currently has non-stop flights listed for $138/each way from RDU to Philly right around the Thanksgiving break.

The dates and times are posted on the web under Residence Life. It looks like the dorms close at 10am on the 24th and do not reopen until Sunday the 28th for Thanksgiving.

This is so fabulous - wish Wake Forest did this!

I have been watching the fares for a while now. Out of Greensboro to Newark they were as high as $1200! Unbelievable. Raleigh into Newark has been as high as $870, so I finally bit the bullet and booked Raleigh into Philly. Not ideal, since my DD will be missing classes on Tuesday, but the more convenient times were booked up. Southwest allows cancellation without penalty, so I will continue to watch Continental prices. But $285 works for me.

MM: one other thought; would you rather pick-up at Laguardia? I distinctly remember that the flights were less expensive in and out of there into RDU…and I think the planes are larger?

Thanks Rodney. I looked into LaGuardia but it wasn’t nonstop. Philly is the furthest but it might be the easier ride. I just checked fall break fares and it was only $158. What a bargain! Much cheaper than our plans to go to Disney/Universal. If only I can convince my DD to come home instead!
