Hi all, my DD is considering Furman for 2010. We live in Illinois (chicago area). Anyone with experience commuting to IL. from Furman? It doesnt look like there are any direct flights (or cheap ones!). I would hate for her to go somewhere that involves a whole day commute to get home. Any advice would be appreciated.

Usually when one flies into or out of Greenville, they go to Atlanta or Charlotte first. There are direct flights to Chicago, but I haven’t looked at the price. Usually if someone is trying to save money, they do the easy drive to Charlotte (100 miles) or Atlanta (not as easy, but many flight options.) You should also look at flights into and out of Asheville, NC – that airport is only 45 miles away.

Our D is headed to Furman this fall, w/o a car. We have flown down there twice. Fall 2008 we went into Atlanta and drove up. The drive was not bad but time was too short for a good visit.
This Spring 2009 we flew to Charlotte, then connected to Greenville. We flew US Airways as Charlotte is a hub for them. We had no issues and have signed our D up for frequent flyer program. I thing you can get a drive to the airport fairly easy from Furman.

Pay close attention to the times. For example you could leave STL at 7:45 and 9:30 am and catch the same connecting flight to Greenville.

Hope this helps, where in Chicago area?
