getting in for instate students

how hard is it to get into UNC if you are an instate student from a very competitive public schools??

What stats do i need:

-Unweighted GPA
-Weighted GPA
-Class Rank
-SAT (Verbal, Math)
-SAT IIs
-APs (if offered at my school)

I got a likely letter and I don't go to a very competitive school, although 3 others got likely letters as well. I was the worst of the applicants with letters. Here's me:
1370 (630 verbal)
760/690/680
17/242
All AP's offered
3.64 unw
4.42 weighted

60% of instate applicants are accepted. G'luck

What are the chances to get in with the following stats???
(just wondering in general.. not exactly my stats)

-1350 SAT
-3.3 Unweighted GPA (due to bad semester sophomore year semester)
-4.2 Weighted GPA (due to bad semester sophomore year semester)
-Top 20% (very competitive school)

Math IIC = 790
Math IC = 740
Biology = 670

-Lots of club activities in Math, and Science..
-Lots of volunteering in school and outside..

*National AP Scholar

-Strong improvement from Sophomore Year to Junior Year
-A few minor awards

-Completed Very High Level of Math while in High School:

*Multi-variable Calculus (Junior Year)
*Differential Equations (Junior Year)
*Linear Algebra (Junior Year)

-Have Computer Skills..

*A+ Cetified
*Worked to create and administrate website for elementary school.

etc..

do you think this application will get rejected??

safety/match

I'd say you're in.

Don't worry about posting your stats, you won't be criticized here, this isn't the Duke board.

OK, I replied before seeing the second post. As an instate student you're most likely in. You can consider it a safety.

how would a few bad grades during sophomore year hurt??
I had a bad semester due to transition into AP program and i recieved a bunch of Cs, and a few Fs.. which I later made up..
(summer school, took AP Exams, SAT IIs in them)

I improved ever since, receiving As and Bs in all of my classes..

Will UNC-Chapel Hill see this as an outlier or will use it to auto-reject me?

mradio, wat school do you go to in North Carolina?

You'll have to play your cards right with the Fs. In the application, try to mention the fact that you made them up through summer school, received decent grades on the APs and SAT IIs, and have now improved to As and Bs. Make the point that the workload of APs were a shock for you first semester. Did you have to sacrifice any activities to make up the Fs and improve to As/Bs? Also, if you have counselor that listens, try to get her/him to mention it in her rec. I'm from St. Stephens.

do you think that can get me rejected even if i explain it or do you think my other stats will make up for it??

OK, I forgot to put into account that this was sophomore year. They understand that you're young and I'm sure they're willing to forgive you. Most schools look heavily at junior and senior year grades. Also, as an instater it's possible to reverse a decision through persuasion. One of my teachers told me about how she did that with her daughter who only took 1 AP class in high school and got rejected.

but thats AP..

North Carolina schools dont actively offer APs..
This is not New York or California..

We have 10sh AP districts, and 3sh IB districts in the State..

The AP thing was an irrelevant detail. Chill out. Yes, there is a chance you'll be rejected but it is very unlikely. Your other credentials make up for it.

I think you have a great chance, and maybe even a likely letter, with more improvement. Try to get into the top 10%.

top 10% is very unlikely for me..
at my school, top 10% requires a weighted gpa of 4.7, i think

Do you go to East Chapel Hill or Chapel Hill?

Chapel Hill

East is as competitive if not more..

you kids have a craaaaazy math team

I am on the math team..
Our team was stronger last year, cause some genious seniors won a ton of places..
