Getting in-GPA

I have been hearing that your undergrad major plays no role in getting in. I have heard that a 3.5 in engineering vs a 4.0 in something easier won't make a difference, and that the law schools don't take into consideration your major all that much.

I like engineering a lot, and when I graduate from college I will want to keep my options open. If I end up wanting to go to law school, will having a little bit low of a GPA due to an engineering degree hurt me a lot?

yes, it will hurt you. there is little “bump” for engineers. however, a high engineering gpa can actually be EASIER to obtain than a liberal arts gpa depending on your intellect and aptitudes. if you have a high aptitude in math and science engineering might come (fairly) easily to you.

that said, with an engineering major, the level of school you go to matters less. in the boston area, there are many successful patent attorneys with suffolk JDs. that is pretty rare for non-patent fields of law, where prestige matters a ton.
