Getting in...later

I am having some trouble finding out whether i should go to college or not. I do want to go, but just not now. I have decent grades and extra stuff (4.0 GPA, eagle scout, NHS, wrestling for 3 years, etc.) and I think i could get into a decent school. The UC system also sent me a letter saying that I will definitely get into a UC if I apply with what I have now based on my GPA, it just may not be my first choice.

I basically want to know the disadvantages of dropping out of school for a couple years. Will it hurt my chances of getting in when I finally do end up applying? Will college life be different if Im older? Im just looking for some answers. Any help would be great.

its actually not that rare to take a year off after highschool. I had a close friend who went to a great prep school and had a great application. He decided to take a year of to gather his life so to speak and he is now in Columbia happier than ever.

Should I apply and then see where I get accepted and then decide if I want to take a year off or something?

I would apply, get accepted and then take a gap year off. Colleges are very accepting of this. It is easier to apply now when you have the resources readily available to you e.g. guidance office, teacher recs, etc.

i think even harvard (and maybe princeton?) encourage this, or at least don't DIScourage it. if you are accepted and choose to take a gap year, i heard they fund you a little bit o_O obviously you have to have a worthy cause but.. hey, it seems like a nice thing :D

I agree with everyone for the most part.

Just fyi, wrong section. :)
This is prep school questions. This would probably be better suited for Admision, and you'd probably get more responses there. :)
