Getting in to Mechanical Engineering?

I have been accepted to the engineering program at University of Texas at Austin but didn't get my first choice which is Mechanical Engineering. I have heard that Mechanical Engineering is difficult to get into. I didn't put any thought into my second choice which is Architectural Engineering. I know i don't want to major in that.

Can anyone advise me of my chances of an internal transfer into Mechanical Engineering? Is there a lot of shuffling after orientation or will it take me a year or so to get in?

Or is it impossible and should I look elsewhere? I really want to go to UT and can't imagine having to go to another university. I am willing to do what it takes to transfer in, but if it is unlikely then I would like to know.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You should to go CE and transfer to ME later. There’s an application process after you have certain # of hours (30 hr?). If you have good GPA, it should be no problem.
