As far as being competitive for the academy, I have a 3.83 GPA, rank in the top 10% of my class, captain both the cross country and track teams at my highschool, recently attended VA Boys State,am involved in National Honor Society, hold the position of Co-Editor In Chief of the school newspaper, wrote for my local community newspaper, and I have also recived many awards such as all-district, all-region, and have qualified for states in both of my sports. As well, I have been voted team MVP, school all-star, and was selected to local area newspapers all-stars. My SAT score right now is 1090. What do my chances look like right now? Even with my low SAT scores, am I able to keep sending in my higher scores as I take them again this fall? Thanks.

also, i recently talked to the track coach at USAFA.

Looks very good to me. Keep taking those SATs and consider ACT as well. Yes, the academy only takes the highest score so you should keep taking them. (And, that's a fact, not a "myth"! ;) ). One tip on the nomination process: My son hand delivered his application to his congressman's office and then even came by occaisonally with "updated" letters, which is encouraged. He made sure to meet the person handling the nomination process, always with a good question or two. The personal contact (which was not enough to be a pest but enough to get noticed) resulted in his congressman's office really getting to know him. Found out later that that really helped when it came time for selection. Good luck!

OReilly - Are you starting your SR year? All your stats do look good, but keep tacking the SAT AND ACT. My son had lower scores until the last test dates for Congressional and Senatorial consideration. As soon as the last test scores came in, my son sent e-mails to anyone that was involved in the application process asking them to review his new scores (including his ALO). The academy also wants to see any scores after the Cong. and Senator deadlines. It shows you are dedicated to improving your scores. Double check the test dates in your area for both the SAT and ACT. Compare those dates with your fall XC season. If the test dates are NOT on the same day of the Districts, Regionals or State meet, TAKE THE TESTS!!! You can miss any invitational. Your Coach has to understand.

I respect your input.

Hopefully you'll find it "fair and balanced." ;)
