I'm soon to be a senior in high school, and I really want to attend either UC Irvine or University of Washington. However, I hear that they highly prefer in state students, rather than out of state students. If I actually get in, then I have to worry about the financial issues. Basically, how likely is it for me not just to get in but to actually be able to attend.

SAT:1930
ACT:31
SAT II Math 2:710
SAT II US History:600
Rank:10/329

You have a good shot at UW, but it’s true that it’s generally harder to get into UW if you’re not from Washington State. I don’t know the answer, but you should just apply and see.

UW is a match for you i believe. One of my good friends is going there from OoS with ACT of 28 and SAT of around 1850 with a class rank of 8 of around 300. He is paying full tuition though but the campus is right on Lake Washington and close to seattle, which is why he decided on UW ( pronounced U-Dub

I don’t have any “chance” info, but UCs are expensive for OOS. The University of California system has very little aid for out of state students. Expect UC Irvine to cost about $45,000 per year. You would be eligible for the same federal aid that you would qualify for at any school - possibly Perkins and Stafford loans and Pell grant if you are very low income - but that would still leave you with $35,000 - $40,000 to cover.

Ditto on alamemom- UC’s give out very little finaid to oos students.

Still try though. You never know what they’ll offer you.
