Getting Into BC Honors

I don’t know about BC but I know at other schools you can ‘earn’ admission into the honors program even though you didn’t initially get in. Is there any precedent for kids who were not intially offered the honors program but somehow find their way in before freshman year?

If so, how would I go about doing so?

Thanks.

On the site it says that you have to have really good first year grades (does not specifiy what that is exactly) and be recommended by profs.

I want to get in as well. =)

i also read that some first-years do get into the honors program, so just keep your grades up. also, talk to your academic advisor as soon as you get there b/c he/she will have connections (?) and be able to guide you in the right direction

What are some criterias for getting admitted into the "Honors Program" before attending BC?

As long as you do well first year, they will put you in the honors program. There are no set criterias as far as I know.

If there are no set criterias, then why is it that some admitted Eagle students are allowed to enter the Honors program whereas others are not?

because they have exceedinly high SATs and good grades. SATs. that was the key to being offered honors when accepted.

...something like a combo of 1450 and higher

Ah, ****. I had a 1440 (2180). Just came from Eagle Day yesterday, LOVE the place. Sending deposit asap :).

oh, i don't know if that's true. I got in, and my SAT wasn't that high.

CR: 760
Math: 660

that's like 1420. (with a 740 on writing).

I'm sure they look at more than just SAT scores. (plus, my SAT IIs were terrible).

"something like" with a combination of good grades. =)

Yeah... I found out today why I didn't get into the Honors program. I got everything else except for a 1450 on my SAT score.

do honor students get any incentives/scholarship for being a honor student?

well, the incentive is that it'll look good on your transcript for grad school ... uhh and they live in their own housing .. and have more work in seminars and such ... i think.

=)

I had a 2180 and i got in, not a great class rank either (38/449)

it was a 1500 math+verbal though

i got into the honors program- i only had a 1310, but i just test really poorly.

What kind of additional work does the honors program request of each individual? Is it an extravagent amount? Do people have a hard time fulfilling the requirements??

dooddaid: Do you have a crazy gpa or something?

so how is it that we apply for the honor program?

do we have to wait after our frist semester to apply?

is it really WORTH it?

I'm planning on attending an Ivy league for grad school, would honors help me?

"I'm planning on attending an Ivy league for grad school"

Aren't we all?

let me rephrase myself because apparently some people dont quite understand me......
it was a simple question, and what i meant by it, is if being in the honors program is really a MUCH greater advantage to attend grad school @ an ivy league. I just wanted to know, FROM THE BC STUDENTS if they felt that the honors program truly gave them an upper hand at getting accepted for grad school
