getting into berkeley civil engineering

Hey I posted a thread just like this a few weeks ago but can you guys answer my question

Is the SAT so important as an admission factor in berkeley that scoring low in it would bring rejection at first glance. Does the other academic factors even matter.

I recently just got my SAT score. I scored 1520

CR: 540
Math: 500
W: 480
predicted Math 2c score: around 600's being realistic

High school GPA: 3.25
Weighted: 3.9

UC GPA: 4.0
Weighted: 4.25
Rank 25/522
California resident
Income: 60k

Good EC's
Good Awards(academically and athlethically)
Gone through personal harships(parents divorced and from extremelly poor family.
Fresman year grades were bad so grades are in an upward trend.
Beginning my sophmore year to senior year never got a "B"

Important Classes Taken
AP US history
AP Lang. & Comp.
Chemistry H
IB Biology SL
AP Calculus AB
AP Lit. & Comp.

Will be taking physics at a community college just for educational advancements

Gone through independent Study program took
Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus so I could advance to Calculus

What are my chances in all UC campuses
emphasizing in Berkeley
I want to major in civil engineering. In my case it would be hard, do you think it wise to declare another major when applying to berkeley then switching if ever I get accepted.

I thank you guys in advance

bump please

No. The GPA is more important, but even a weak GPA wouldn't mean automatic rejection.

Yes. As I said, GPA is most important, as is the rigor of your course load; essays are also considered as important (all three of these are put as "very important" in Berkeley's common data sets). Scores, ECs, talent/ability, personal qualities, volunteer work, and work experience are considered "important."

Your GPA is somewhat weak, as are your SAT I and IIs. Are you sure that's the correct GPA? What are your ECs and honors/awards? "Good" isn't enough info; we need to see them. As it stands:

Berkeley/UCLA: reach
UCSD: reach
UCSB/UCI/UCD: slight reach - high match [would be match if you had ELC status]
UCR/UCM/UCSC: match

It's the SAT score holding you back in this case. Since you're applying to a competitive major, it makes admission even more difficult, especially at Berkeley; you're going to have to raise your SAT score to at least 2100 to be somewhat competitive for Berkeley. The fact that your GPA is slightly weak (in comparison to Berkeley's average) doesn't help much, either.

While applying to another major would not be as difficult as engineering, there are two things to keep in mind: 1) switching over can be difficult, even once accepted, and 2) it's a reach even if you aren't applying to engineering. I'd say you might as well apply for engineering and hope for the best. Perhaps you can get your SATs up to par.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the input.

Unfortunately I wont be able to bring up my SAT's anymore because I have to take the SAT Subject test on Dec. and I missed the registration deadlines for Nov.
I'm stuck with my 1520 score
