I am a junior at my current college. I am majoring in sociology with a minor in chemistry and psychology who is also enrolled in the honors college. I have a 3.72 at my current university, but this is because of extenuating circumstances. I graduated in three years from my high school, where I also transferred during my sophomore year due to extenuating circumstances involving a medical condition. I also don’t have high scores on my ACT.
I attended my freshman year of college as an out-of-state 17 year-old and received average grades. This was due to the diagnosis of my medical school. I transferred to a university in my hometown and have been doing really well at it. I am a current junior with straight A’s except four B’s that I received while I was undergoing a treatment for my medical condition that left me with no memory of my past and the inability to form new memories for quite awhile. I am doing much better now
Because of my medical condition I have been in-and-out of school for years. Withdrawing several semesters, considering I am 25 and still an undergraduate.
I have great reasons why I want to transfer to Brown and a LOT of extra curricular activities. I have leadership roles, volunteer, and am currently researching different treatments of radiation oncology with a doctor and writing an article for a national medical journal.
I am wondering if I should even apply as a transfer student, because of my low grades and scores in high school–all due to extenuating circumstances that I can document. Along with a low cumulative GPA from both universities, again because of the diagnosis of my medical condition, but have a high GPA at my current university, with a ton of EC’s in the honors college, in five honor societies, volunteering, research experience, leadership roles, etc.
Will my impressive stats at my current school out way my extenuating circumstances that lead to poor performance, but is now in check and I am doing well in?
