Getting into Cal with a 3.5

is this possible? I know some of you got in with lower than 3.5 but admissions gets harder each year.

Does it help that my major isn't impacted at Cal? American Studies.

I just read the Cal transfer profiles and each year the average gpa is getting higher and higher... last year it was 3.61-3.9x

Since my GPA lingers in the 3.5-3.6 range I am still up for consideration, of course, but reading about people with 4.0's not getting into Cal with majors of all kinds is kinda discouraging....

or am I worrying too much about GPA? I know GPA isn't *everything * but it is verrry important.

yes it’s possible but the higher the GPA the better…of couse not everyone is perfect gpa wise. I’m not sure what percentage of cal admits 3ransfer with a gpa of 3.5 and less but I’d say a couple hundred of the 3K accepted… (verify with stats). Cal is tough to get into so always have backups if all else goes awry… Just my 2 cents.

yes it does help to have an unimpacted major but various factors are considered as well…

it’s possible for some majors. if your major isn’t impacted and easy to get in, then it is possible. For instance, I know that Berkeley admists a lot of philosophy majors who has 3.5-3.6. Also, Berkeley takes your personal statement more seriously than other UCs, so that would help. I saw a lot of people who were rejected by UCLA but accepted to Berkeley. Maybe their essays helped!
you could always go to that statfinder website and check out the GPAs of admitted students in the past!

I am with you on this one.

I have a 3.7 and applying to Haas (might have seen my recent thread). But i am not giving up hope and if anything i will reapply next year if i do not get in this year.

@redoplease I just ran a couple tables (for the longest time I was confused by the configurations, lol).

Berkeley accepted 30% of transfer applicants w/GPAs between 3.40-3.59 in 08-09 school year. In addition the Interdisciplinary Studies sector of L&S accepts 30-40% of applicants.!! :O

^yeeahh it took me a good minute to figure the tables out too haha. But I think you were correct in saying that GPA isn’t everryything…hopefully your personal statements were the $hizz, and you fall in the 30% :D

Is biology impacted at Cal?

@redoplease Thanks! I hope so too. Good luck with your admissions as well!

@Blackmamba2410 I ran a table on statfinder for biology at Cal - for 08-09 they accepted 270/619 applicants. ~40%
