Hi, I know its a little early to start worrying about college, I'm a freshman, but that's just me. I was wondering if you have any tips on what to do stand out. I love reading and writing, I have over 150 hours of volunteering. I am also interested in becoming a lawyer so I am doing a summer program at a university specifically for that. Also getting a volunteer award. Just curious, any feedback is appreciated!! I also took the hardest classes (honors english 9, honors geometry, honors bio, honors french 2, honors history) and so far have gotten A's in all of them next year I am also taking the hardest classes. Plus orchestra since the 4th grade.
Thanks again!

superlative success in something is still the best way to stand out. choose activities where there is a competitive atmosphere and the chance to earn distinction for yourself.

Doing "orchestra" probably doesn't really qualify, there are tons of kids who do that who aren't remarkable. Longevity in an activity doesn't do much except show that you're not a fly-by-night resume whore - i.e., just because you've been in it since 4th grade doesn't make much difference. If, on the other hand, you're in an instrument with substantial solo potential and you're very good at it, consider joining a chamber group or doing more solo stuff to try to win some recognition.

Also, the best way to kick butt on the SATs (in my opinion) is to do math team for a few years. I'm biased, but it trains you to think several levels above anything that a standardized test will ever ask you (to say nothing of giving you confidence in math classes).
