I was just graduated high school and was accepted at the University of Pittsburgh. I'm double majoring in history and political science. I'm wondering what I'll have to do to get into Cornell's law school. I know it's very difficult, so do you think they'd accept someone like me who didn't attend Ivy League undergrad (or some equivalent) and if so, what kind of grades/LSAT scores are necessary? Thanks!

Google would’ve been a good way to find an answer to this. Stellar GPA and LSAT scores are what will get you in. Although, political science/history majors are a dime a dozen as people who apply to law school.

Dunno if you like math, physics, or philosophy. They tend to score the best on the LSAT. I think Cornell’s 25th percentile is around a 3.5-3.6 GPA.

Law school admissions is fairly formulaic (esp. compared to undergraduate admissions). High GPA + High LSAT score = admittance

Do whatever it takes to achieve both if law school is your choice.

I was going to say i was doubting whether Cornell Law was worth getting into as bottom of T14 in USNWR but http://cdn.abovethelaw.com/uploads/2011/03/go-to-law-schools-NLJ-250.jpg shows that we land in Biglaw firms really, really well.

^
Wait… How are we beating Harvard and Yale even with fewer JDs produced?

Also, I thought you didn’t like USNWR.

I have nothing against USNWR specifically - it’s as legitimate as other ranking sources, with the difference that it’s more publicized … and as pretty much the only thing anyone knows USNWR for. What I have against USNWR is the people who treat it like a bible without looking anywhere else - like i said, it’s a legitimate ranking source, but if you are going to use numbers to argue then you better look at other sources too - i treat them pretty equally unless the ranking sources have some really dubious ranking methodologies.

As for the link I just got, I got it from reading this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/law-school/536109-cornell-law-school-elite.html

We have fewer JDs because the school is smaller, I think - which would increase our placement numbers and make the link i posted before sensible.

Edit: Just checked, our law school is about 3 times smaller than Harvard Law

I’m not going to pretend I know much about law but from what our more knowledgeable peers say it doesn’t look too bad.

Thanks so much for all the feedback! Cornell (or any Ivy, really) is really a kind of dream, but I figure it can’t hurt to shoot for it.
