Hello, everyone! I am currently an accounting major in the end of his junior year. What I was wondering is if it’s possible to get into dental school if I take all of the required courses. I have a very strong GPA, but I’ve read that medical schools don’t really like business majors. I was wondering if the same was true for dental school. Any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Not sure that it is correct that “medical schools don’t really like business majors.” Wherever you read that, take it with a grain of salt.
Have a meeting with your undergrad school’s premed advisor, and run your plans by him/her. Just be aware that it is getting increasingly difficult to go straight into medical school from undergrad, no matter what your major. Much of your competition will have done a fifth year of science studies or research, and will have had significant volunteer experience in hospital/medical/dental settings.
Ace the DAT too…
I wonder whether there is the infamous “soap test” on the US version or is the “soap test” a strictly Canadian feature?
@Catria
No, there’s actually not a “soap test” on the US DAT. (Less thing for us Americans to worry about lol. But I hear that some dental schools actually like Canadian DAT scores better just because the test is harder).
@migman
As far as I know they don’t really care what your major is. Just show them that you do care about dentistry. You can do this by getting good science grades and a good DAT score, and also shadow some dentists.
The only non-Canadian dental school I knew about that favored Canadian DAT scores over US DAT scores is Tufts… That said I do not advocate taking the Canadian DAT just because your topmost choices for a dental school favor Canadian DAT scores over US DAT scores, unless you wish to practice dentistry in Canada.
What is your science GPA like?
