Currently I'm a sophomore and I have decided to change my major from intended MCB to Economics.

It says in the Berkeley website that the school looks mainly at your econ prerequisite GPA when making decisions. Do they also look at your overall gpa?

I think I can get a good econ prereq GPA. So far I took Math 1A and got an A. I'm worried about my previous gpa. I have received pretty bad, but passing, grades in 4 of my classes. But overall, by the time I apply, my gpa will probably be above 3.3 (including the C's I have received from those 4 classes) if I don't slack off again.

Also, another concern is, will the school look down on the fact that I'm applying to the major pretty late compared to others? I'm planning to apply the summer after my sophomore year.

I really want to get into econ so it would be good if I can get some feedback.
