Getting into Engineering Courses

My guidance counselor talked to a Brown admissions officer and said that if I didn’t apply to Brown as a prospective engineering student and write the engineering essay, then I won’t have priority for getting into the first-year engineering courses. Basically, it would take me 5 years to graduate with engineering rather than 4 because I would have to take freshman engineering prerequisites during my sophomore year. Is this true? I really hope not!

None of the first-year engineering courses are capped, as far as I know. It shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m very surprised to hear it. But I would think that Brown admissions would know best.
