My girlfriend will be applying to NYU next year, and to support her (and plan a visit with her) I am also planning on applying to Gallatin, although I am pretty sure I already have my eyes set on an Ohio school (Ohio Wesleyan, John Carroll, or Capital).

Is Gallatin a tough school to get into? A male...good grades/pretty good rank (Mostly A's, Few B's [Toughest schedule possible minus AP Calculus]..4.6/4.5 W -- 9/100 rank ..) 27 ACT (28 E, 26 M, 30 R, 25 S)...Lots of extracurriculars/volunteerism...leadership positions..

Anyone have any statistics on it or anything?

I had yet to see the bulletin - thanks for the help.

And to whoever said Ohio Wesleyan was on a different calibre (not a word, by the way - it's CALIBER): I honestly don't care about your opinion. I was simply looking for offical statistics or facts.

Many could argue that OWU is "better" than NYU...I think OWU has a more unified and smaller campus, more available professors, and much better financial aid. For that reason, it is near the top of my list.

This thread wasn't about judging my college selections. It was about helping me out. And if you don't want to do that, then just don't post. Thanks.

cal·i·bre (kāl'ə-bər) Pronunciation Key
n. Chiefly British
Variant of caliber.

I agree they shouldn't be judging your college choices, but maybe you shouldn't criticize them either. Calibre is a word; it's just the British form.

My daughter and son were admitted to Gallatin. (class of 2009 and class of 2011) First of all, I don't think Gallatin is an easy way into NYU and you need to make sure you fully understand the program and like the way it works before you apply. You will be designing you own major (concentration) with the help of advisors and your course requirements are a little different from a traditional program. Gallatin looks for unique individuals who show creativity and are very independent. Great stats are no guarantee for admission. The essay and the recommendations need to show that you are unique and independent. I would recommend a campus visit and a visit to one of the Gallatin sessions.

By "different" I meant they are of, arguably, lower calibre, than Ohio Wesleyan. And by lower, I refer to selectivity, overall academic statistics, etc. I have rarely seen Ohio Wesleyan being compared to John Carroll and Capital. They are very different schools and attract very different students.

I don't know anything about OW, but I can assure you Gallatin students are in no way of lower caliber or calibre compared to any students. They are just probably a bit more independent and creative and have something unique about them. Strong academics and an outstanding transcript, as well as good test scores are only part of the equation. You need to visit if you have any interest. Gallatin is just not a place to apply to because you think you want to go to NYU. It's not easy to compare Gallatin students to other students.

I am actually leaning more towards Steinhardt because I spoke to an admissions rep over the phone today for about twenty minutes - we discussed everything from financial aid and housing to the different schools.

And I am planning a visit to NYU soon to check it out. I like Gallatin for its ability to offer a variety of classes in different schools but at the same time I like Steinhardt's focus on set subjects and more set in ground requirements.

One thing the admissions rep told me suprised me: As a male, I have around a 15% better chance of being admitted to any school but Stern and Tisch. Interesting, huh?
