Getting into graduate school

If you wanted to get into an Ivy League school for your graduate school how would your stats have to compare if you were graduating from:

A. A great undergraduate school like an Ivy League school
B. A great tier 1 school in its own right, such as Carnegie Mellon/UMichigan etc., but not as prestigious as an Ivy League

in my experience on admissions committees, no difference.

I honestly think it really doesn’t matter what school you go to for your undergraduate as long as you do well in your school (above a certain range like 3.4-3.5 your GPA doesn’t matter too much), good GRE scores, have a solid research/work background and get great letters of recos from professionals in your field(this is more critical). If it helps, its worth to take a year or two off between undergrad and grad school to get more experience and make your application stronger!!

I went to a state school for my undergrad and now I am heading off to an Ivy League school for graduate studies in the fall!!

Hope this helped answer your question! Good luck!

Keep in mind many of those other “tier 1” schools can be considered more prestigious within plenty of fields.

This has been discussed before and we have a number of threads on this. Try using the search function for similar keywords.

Bottom line: Look beyond the Ivies, there are other schools that are actually better than some of the Ivies in many subjects. And where you go for undergrad, go where you can get lots of opportunities, and adcoms will certainly take your UG institution and GPA into account.
