Getting into Haas

hey everyone!

i was admitted for fall 2007 under l&s. i'm planning to probably go pre-business and hopefully enter haas. i've already read about the pre-reqs and all that stuff, but i wanted to get an opinion from someone who's already in (or planning to go in). was passing the pre-reqs hard? was maintaining the gpa hard? an acceptance rate figure? anything to watch out for? info like that.

please and thanks! :)

50% acceptance rate, not horrible. Although from the research I've done an undergrad business degree isn't incredibly helpful (correct me if I'm wrong). I thought about HAAS briefly, but I figure doing my engineering/science thing for now will be a good choice and if I want to get into business later I can go for an MBA. Then again, business isn't really my set goal, so you probably have different priorities.

A business degree from just any school isn't very helpful, but one from Haas will get you a foot in the door. You can't ride on the name forever, but it definitely distinguishes you from your peers in business. The classes are pretty useful like Finance which I'm taking and which I really like to learn about. As for what's hard, you have to compete against all these other business intended people and some really have an annoying condescending attitude toward others. If you want to guarantee getting in, get a high gpa and do some extra curricular activities. I know this is easier said then done, but work hard and things will gradually work out.

Just a personal preference, say "undeclared" when someone asks you your major. Almost everyone and their mothers is pre-business at first and it's just a hassle explaining how you "intend" to do this and that.

does everyone apply for haas in their 2nd year and start it in their third year (junior) or do you start the haas program in your fourth year? some ppl are saying it takes 5 years to finish, is it reasonable to finish the program in 4 years?

I am pretty sure you have to graduate from Haas in 4 years, they don't give you a choice of finishing in 5.

As far as acceptance, it is in the 40-50% range, but this is of those that apply. From those that enter wishing to apply, I would estimate that around 15% of those that plan on applying eventually enter. Some choose other majors and some are simply weeded out by the classes/competition.

Pre-reqs are competitive because in a sense you are all trying for that Haas slot, but I think it is healthy competition for the business world. If it weren't competitive, it wouldn't be ranked #3 for undergrad behind Sloan and Wharton.

Apply beginning of sophomore year. You have to be in Haas for 2 years, but I don't know about being in it for more than 2 years.

There are people who choose to apply junior year, which does mean that they will graduate a year late. Not many people choose to do that though.

this is somewhat on topic, but i had another question out of curiosity:

does anyone have stats on graduating students from haas' undergrad program (stats like starting average and median income, starting income range, etc)?

please and thanks!

How "cutthroat" is the competition in the pre-reqs? This question is based off my knowledge that GPA supposedly plays a large role in an Undeclared/Pre Biz major gaining admission to Haas.

I would also like to second trance0i2's request for statistics... Good question dude :)

Thanks

actually, i found the answer to my own question :P. look at this:

Haha nice. GJ dude, thanks for sharing :)

do you HAVE to be a undeclared/prebusiness major to apply for haas? what about econ?

is anyone thinking of double majoring?
