Getting into Harvard...

Cornell a safety? Are you kidding? More like match...

To the OP, I think the thing that makes you stand out the most is your 2400 + 3 x 800 SAT IIs. Just with that, you have a very good shot at Harvard. Together with those ecs, especially fencing, I'd say you have a very good chance. Good luck!

" but like anonymous said, what race, gender, and state? Because from my home state for example, Harvard accepts 1-2 people a year. "

That may be because so few people apply from Nevada. Meanwhile, from some East Coast high schools, 60 people or more may apply each year.

I heard that one year, only 1 student from Miss. got in, but that may have been the only student who applied from that state. It actually may be far easier getting into H from a state like Nevada or Miss. than from Mass. or NY.

HEY!!!!! THIS KID IS A TROLL!!!!!

a few days ago this kid posted a chances thread stating she was a RISING SOPHOMORE, that she had only taken PRACTICE SAT'S, and that she got a 1270!!!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=78957

Stars4u, it's pretty obvious what you're doing... and i know that right after freshman year, it's easy to say, "oh, i'll get 2400 sat and a perfect GPA. And I'll be involved in 10 clubs and win a ton of awards." But it gets harder after freshman year. Things change, and nothing ever goes according to plan.

Take my advice: get off of this website. relax. if you go through your entire high school career stressing about getting into Harvard, the disappointment will kill you, and you'll realized you just wasted four years of your life. The only thing you can do right now is to do what you love, and everything will fall into place. trust me.

Now get off of your computer, close the textbooks, and watch some TV for a bit. Then come back in 2 years.

this is the funniest post.

I know this post is dead, but a word of advice about Cornell. Cornell rejects lots of qualified people who make it obvious (or even subtle) that they don't want to go there except as a safety. Cornell gets this type of app. alot so they spot it very well. Most of the kids I know going to harvard got rejected from Cornell because they thought they had it in the bag with their "overqualifedness." As an ED applicant, cornell would be a very likely acceptance, but RD, unless you put together a REALLY good application to them with outstanding work on their supplemental cornell essays and show (or pretend to show) them you really want to attend, your chances go WAY down--probably below that of a kid who is a match/slight reach.

dunno man, if you reuse the same stuff, you shouldnt really look disinterested.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I really appreciate it.

When I started this thread, I knew that someone would eventually find out (from my other post) that I'm only a sophomore, but I posted it anyway. Why, you might ask. Well, I just wanted to know what I'd have to aim for in order to get into a top college, OR if I had no chance whatsoever because I didn't start a sport early enough...just stuff like that. I wanted to find out what other people thought...and I got what I wanted, thanks to all you guys' thoughtful feedback.

From my other post, I realized that no one pays attention to a mere sophomore...it's always "oh, you're just a soph...don't worry about college" and stuff like that...not really helpful. So, I NEEDED to post this in order to get the replies that I wanted.

So, why am I posting this? Well, I want you guys to know that I really appreciate all your comments and replies and I don't want you guys to think that stars4u is a liar and just have a bad impression of me. Because, I'm NOT a liar and I didn't mean to make you guys feel as if you were wasting your time by talking to a sophomore. Because your responses helped me A LOT—now I have something to work towards, sort of like the pathway to reaching a goal is laid out for me.

Okay, so I probably won't be asking anymore “What are my chances” questions for a while...lol...

Most of you guys are really nice, good people and I hope you get into the college of your choice.

Best of luck,
stars4u

i already got into a college of my choice.

but if this is your aim for stats, you need to aim higher for HYPS, especially because ur asian from cali. being class prez is more impressive than being prez of three random clubs.

awards are VERY important.

when people say 40% of 2400s get accepted, keep in mind that 60% will be rejected. the fact that they got a perfect score only means that they have very high intelligence, and that also reflected on their other activities. the 2400 alone is overrated. our 1600 valedictorian last year went to dartmouth (a good school), but we sent 7 more (with lower GPAs) to harvard, yale, princeton, MIT, and wharton.
