Hi everyone,

I am a 1st year student at NYU and this semester my grades did not come out as fabulous as I wished they had. How much does getting straight B's for my first semester hurt my chances for getting into a good/competitive med school?

I am really worried about this since most of my classes are general core classes ie: chemistry I or biology I, etc.

Please provide your feedback. Any advice will be great!

It is not your first term, it is your overall GPA, if you get about a 3.5 and a decent MCAT then you have a decent chance, of course, anything higher than a 3.5 is helpful, same with a higher MCAT, the bigger the better, but you are not out of luck now. You need to prove yourself over the next few years!

somemom is correct -- there is still plenty of time to pull yourself up. The straight B's were B- or B+ or just B's?

(1000th post!)

I know many people that did much worse than that their first semester even their first year and still got into med school. Just keep improving and raising your GPA and you'll be fine. If you weren't satisfied with yoru grades figure out why and make the appropriate changes for this upcoming semester!
