Getting into medical school early

I have a few questions:

Is it possible to bypass the MCAT somehow?

My uncle back in the late 80's was accepted into medical school as a sophomore in college and was able to skip the MCAT, how was he able to do this?

If you finished your pre-med in 3 years could you enter med school early?

Not unless you are in one of those 7 or 8 year MD/BA programs.

Unless you specifically enter one of those guaranteed admissions or an accelerated/combined BA/MD programs there is no way to bypass the MCAT that I know of.

Most schools require you to have a BA or BS though not all (my medical school does accept applications from students who will have only completed 90 hours of course work).

That said, why the rush? I mean, I understand why you might want to avoid the MCAT (b/c it's this big scary test) but even then, if the MCAT is such a detterent(sp?) why even be pre-med in the first place? Why would you want to leave undergrad? Are you really going to look back when you retire at age 65 and say "gee I wish I would have been in practice for 35 years instead of 34."?

tufts has a program with a few select schools in MA, which you apply to sophomore year. if granted admission you still must take the mcat but there is no minimum score required. you then finish out your BA degree while having less pressure on preparing for and applying to med school. then the year after you graduate you start attending Tufts Med school. something i am looking into.
