Is it possible to get into a prestigious medical school from a SUNY? These reason why I am asking this is that I am attending Stony Brook (undergrad) in fall of 2007 and it seems to me like I wont have a good shot at medical schools like Columbia, Cornell, or Mount Sinai. I have a GT to Cornell for fall of 2008, but Stony isn't giving me the Bio class that Cornell wants, which will probably nullify my GT agreement. So at this point, it seems to me that I am stuck in Stony. I mean I already have a research position for fall of 2007 and during the summers I have a second research position at Columbia Medical School. I mean I find research fun and that is why I want to do an MD/PhD degree, but it seems impossible to me that I will achieve this from either Cornell or Stony. At this point, I am a nervous wreck, any suggestions or kind words or anything.

You're asking if it's possible, in which case a single example will serve to prove the point?

Columbia: http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=1758
Yale: http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=2335

I don't think either of these is an MD/PhD.

I know what you mean, but it seems to me that if only 2 ppl were able to do this, then fate is against me.

It's not "only" two people. It's two people who went and posted on a random website. You can't draw any information from this website except this:

The probability is not zero.

So basically, I have a shot if I maintain a good GPA, decent MCAT, and continue w/ researching in labs.

^^^Haven't we always said this?

Going to a SUNY isn't gonna make or break you when it comes to getting into med school. As long as you have a good gpa and a decent MCAT, you have a shot.
