I was just wondering if anyone thought it would be possible for me to get into medical school if I go to a two-year college and then transfer to a four-year school. Thanks.

It is possible, but there are some things that you should NOT do.

1 ) Do not take your major pre med required classes at a 2 year college UNLESS you will be taking a higher level in the same area at a 4 year college.

(The one exception to this would be calculus. Possibly general physics.)

For example, you can take Intro Bio ONLY IF you take 2 semesters or more of higher level bio classes at a 4 year college.

You can take General Chem at a 2 year college but never OChem.

Why? Because med schools want to see how well you compare against the strongest students in tough classes and unfortunately community colleges/junior colleges are not where you’re going to find the strongest students.

2) Do not take a course at your junior college and then take the same course over again at your 4 year college.

3) Do not take pre-reqs during the summer.

4) Do not apply after your junior year. Wait until you’ve completed your senior year.

Why? Because you will need to have 2 years of strong grades at a 4 year college to give yourself the best chance to get accepted to med school. Also 2 years gives you an opportunity to get to know your profs and get those critical letters of recommendation you’ll need to apply.

The general advice is to take as many of your general education courses as you can at the CC and save most of your pre med requirements for the 4 year school.
