Getting into Medical School

I am currently a freshman at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. I have decided that I want to go to Medical School and I am wondering where I should transfer to give me the best chance.

I am predicting I will have a 3.5-3.7 GPA at Bentley however they do not offer any of the pre-med requisites so I think that I should transfer

I am looking at:
-Fordham University
-Loyola University Maryland
-Villanova University
-Providence College
-And of course I could stay at Bentley

I am wondering where I should transfer to give me the best shot to get into a well-known medical school.

I know that I still have to take the MCATS and do well in the pre-requisites. I have been a volunteer EMT and firefighter for my local fire department so I have a pretty good volunteer program.

When applying to Med School do they usually care where you got your UG degree from or just as long as you have a very high GPA (3.5 and above)?

Grades and MCAT’s will be more important than the minor differences in UG you’re looking at. If you like where you are, avoid the disruption of a move, study hard, become a doc.

they do not offer any of the classes that I would need to take to get into med school. also i am not crazy about Bentley anyway

There are only five premed requirements. Biology, chemistry, physics, organic chemistry and calculus. I did that while being a philosophy major. If you don’t like your school, that is another issue. All of the aboves end kids to medschool. Again just a question of grades and MCAT.

I would check with the science dept at your school and see what they offer in lieu of an actual pre-med program. If you’re actually unhappy with Bentley, then I’d consider transferring. But think about whether you’re actually unhappy or just feeling ‘meh’ about it. You could end up feeling truly unhappy elsewhere, instead.
