hello im applying to exeter for 10th grade next year and trying to get in on full aid. im identified as gifted and was invited to attend a middle school for the gifted but theres no gifted program for high school in my area and my zoned public school is terrible. i make mostly b's in all advanced classes and i was in student council for two years in middle school. i also play electric bass guitar :) what do you think my chances of getting into exeter are? i want to go soooo bad!!!!

put this in the chances section.
but i’d say you have a good chance

Good Luck although to be honest the whole gifted thing is pretty lose in my opinion at least in my state. Every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to be gifted if you listened to my school

lizzy–are you applying as a day student or boarder? In either case, looking for full aid could pose a real problem, but the pools (and therefore chance assessments) can be different for lower year, when PEA tends to take proportionally the greatest number of additional day students (compared to new uppers, seniors & PGs).

im applying as a boarding student. thanks for all your replys!

and o yeah when youre identified as gifted in my school district for elementary and middle school you get sent to small magnet schools but theres no high school gifted program just IB.

ditto

Why does it have to be 10 characters?

lizzy–Your chances depend on so many things. It is possible, if you’re applying as a boarder and taking very difficult courses, that Bs will be OK. (In contrast, for day students, coming from a well-known pool of schools in commuting distance, I’d say it would be nearly impossible to get in as a B student.) It’s otherwise very hard to judge your chances without knowing a lot more: why do you want to go to Exeter? What is it about Exeter that spins you, and what could you add? What do you absolutely love to do? The vast majority of applicants will be academically gifted, so there has to be something that sets you apart and that you can articulate in your application and show in your interview. What other activities are you doing outside school this year? If playing the guitar is your main non-academic interest, why? What makes you passionate about playing? What kind of music do you love? What would you do with that interest once you got to Exeter? For example, would you try to start your own band, or add a unique sound to an existing ensemble?

well i want to go because exeter is amazing and i llove the harkness method. plus i would get to meet all kinds of people and take classes i would never get to take at my current school. i absolutely love to read and their library is amazing. i guess what sets me apart would be my talent for writing, ever since i was in elementary school my teachers bragged about how good my writing is. also playing bass guitar is the main thing i do outside of school, and i love it because it has an amazing sound and i feel like i can do anything when im playing
if i go to exeter i would definitely join the rock society
and as far as my application my current grades were sent afew days after the deadline cuz the guidance department at my school is terrible and cant do anything in a timely manner (i had been asking for them since october of last year). and my interview was the 16th but i think it went very well. also exeter sent me their course catalog afew days ago i think its a good sign?

Reading this thread i was being a bit of a twat. Sorry bout that, i was feeling rather insecure at the time and was super stresserd and hyped out. I’m a bit more chill about the whole thing now, if it happens, it happens, if not my life shall go on. I wish you the best of luck though! How did the rest of your ap gp?

it depends on so many more things than just the stuff u said but id say ur chances r ok based on the things u said
