My S is applying to the PA program at RIT. I was wondering what his chances are of getting in. He has good SATs (2010), a fair GPA (3.1), sports captain for 2 years, volunteer awards, and a ton of other extra curricular activities. Any feedback is appreciated.

My daughter graduated from that program a few years ago. I know at that time they really wanted to see “medical” related experience. She volunteered at the local hospital emergency room, as community service for high school. She was mostly filing and copying papers for them, but the doctors let her come in and watch stitches and things like that sometimes.
She also went and shadowed a PA for a few days. If he is invited for an interview (only interviewed students get in) really look over ALL the information on the RIT website realting to PA’s - they really ask a lot of questions about that - especially “What is the difference between a PA and a Nurse Practitioner?”.
She absolutely loved the program, and now has a very nice position in Virginia with an orthopedic Dr who specializes in the spine.
He has a nice SAT score, GPA may be a bit low…but sometimes there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to how they choose!
Good luck!

Thanks so much for your feedback. Congratulations to your daughter! Do you mind me asking where else she applied and why she chose RIT over the other schools?

She really didn’t apply anywhere else for the PA program. We live an hour from RIT and she really liked the program. when she heard about it. She was originally thinking pre-med, but then heard about this program - the other schools she applied to were just for biology.
