Getting into Texas A&M - Please Help!

I am a Junior in High School. I want to get into Texas A&M.
-In 2nd quartile in a very competitive high school.
-95 GPA
-Course work includes pre-ap and dual credit courses
-National Honor Society
-Compete in UIL competitons in math and number sense.
- Scored a 28 (breakdown below) on the ACT.
- 2 sport varsity athlete
- Compete for my school in competitive skeet shooting team (club) and hold an office in that club.
- Compete on select/club sport teams outside of school.
- Participated in two mission trips to Kenya and France.
- Some interest in the Corps at A&M and recently did an overnight visit with the corps.

I have been told that being in the 2nd quartile is not good. Will my 2nd quartile ranking kill my chances of getting into Texas A&M? If not what do you think my chances are and how can I improve them? Thank you for your help!

ACT composite score 28
English 23
Math 29
Reading 29
Science 32
Combined English/Writing 21

Being in that quartile wont kill your chances but it definitely wont help. As Im sure you are aware Texas public universities automatically accept you if you are in the top 10% – I think that is still the case. The rest will really depend on your application class and who all desides to apply to A&M. Senior year grades are important so keep up the good work and for sure apply when the time comes. Id say your chances are pretty good but you are not a shoo-in. Worse case scenario if you dont get in you could go to another school for a year and then transfer in, I know alot of people that did that.

How do the senior grades help if you apply early? I’ve been told applying early is important and increases my chances. Thank you for your help!

TAMU: Low match/Match

Might want to consider UT Dallas for a safety… the auto-admit policy is far more lenient than at TAMU, where you simply need a 26 on the ACT for auto-admission.

A&M is competitive for anyone who isn’t a texan in the top 10% of their class. But it’s not as competitive as UT Austin, and A&M also offers very generous financial aid as far as texans go, I don’t know about non texans.

Since we are Texans, are you saying his chances are better even is he is not an auto admit (top 10%, or top 25% with 30 ACT)? Also, can someone help me with an explanation of how doing well his senior year could help if he applies early? How does that work?
Thank you for your help!!!

Hey, I have a similar problem. I was born in texas, and live in Pennsylvania currently. My mom is a texas a&mm graduate and my dad from ut of austin. I go to a high school you have to apply to, and all of the students going there are VERY VERY SMART.I take basically all honors classes and am a freshmean so I haven’t taken SAT/ACT yet. I am worried my class rank will be low, and admisssions office for a&m says that is the most important factor. I do track. I am worried a&m will not see how smart everyone at my school is, and how class rank is lower for me than most. I could go to east or west where there are mostly not so smart kids and be top ten percent, but I am not allowed. Also where people take revision I take computer programming encore we do java and stuff. what are my chances in the future
