Getting into UCLA out of state

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and my dream school is UCLA

-3.8 gpa
-1 ap this year, 3 next year, 4 senior year (so far have a b+ in ap bio)
-On the wrestling team (hope to be varsity junior and senior year)
-Also in an out of school wrestling team
- volunteer at a local retirement home
- volunteer as a coach in a wrestling program called beat the streets, to help urban kids find an outlet and get off the streets
- I live in CT
- Hispanic
- female

Can anyone help me and tell me what my chances on ever getting into ucla would be? Or what I can do to help my chances. Please and thank you!

Being Hispanic won’t help because UCLA is race-blind.
You’ll need an SAT score of 2100+ to have a good chance. Maintain those grades as well.

Will being out of state weaken or increase my chances? Should I get more involved?

Race blind? Are you sure?

Being out of state should help, because you would be paying a much higher tuition.

Just to give you some real stats from last year, my son (OOS) got into UCLA last year, but decided not to go.

He got a 2300 on his SAT, 3.7 gpa unweighted, and was about the 5th percentile of his high school class.

14 AP classes.

He did not get into Berkeley, by the way.

To give you further perspective, he was waitlisted at Emory, Vanderbilt, and Johns Hopkins.

He did not have much in the way of ECs, however.

Since you can apply to all the UCs with one application, I would add schools like UCSD and UCSB to your list.

Do you know if the major you go for affects your chances? (I want to major or neuroscience) also, does ucla have decent financial aid, or would I be stuck paying in the full amount?

Based on my son’s experience, don’t expect much, if any, financial aid if you are OOS.
The main attraction of an OOS student is that they pay full tuition.
If you can’t do that, they really don’t need you, unless you are truly exceptional.

While not as sexy as UCLA, I would look at University of Minnesota. They have rather reasonable OOS tuition.

Anyone else?

Have any backup plans, in case UCLA falls through?

Well I’m only a sophomore but I’m going to apply to all the UC schools, I’m looking at uconn as an extreme backup, And there’s a couple in texas I’m browsing but not major backups yet

I’ve just started looking since I’m a sophomore. I’m going to apply to all the UC’s and I’m still browsing around at schools in texas. Uconn would be a complete backup plan.

Bumppp anyone

Anyone else please?
