getting into UCSC on the waitlist/appeal

I really want to go to Santa Cruz, but they waitlisted me. I did terribly my sophmore year of high school which is what hurt me (I had around a 2.7, I think). I took three AP's my junior year and got a 3.8 weighted. I got a 1910 on my SAT.
I also appealed their decision. And now that I think about it, I feel like I should have put more thought into my letter of appeal. I described my progress in my senior year. That was basically my only compelling information. My senior year I'm taking three AP's again and I got straight straight A's my first semester resulting in a 4.56 GPA. I plan on getting straight A's again this semester. I thought this was a significant improvement considering last year I got three C's. I just feel like I should have done more, like discuss how I'm dying to be part of the literature/creative writing program at santa cruz, how it's the perfect school for me.
I guess I'm just wondering whether there's anything more I can do, and what my chances are of getting in on appeal or on the waitlist.
