I am looking to get into UF, but I lack high school credits in a few classes that most students getting into UF have taken.

I haven't taken any Chemistry class. I only am taking 1 of the 2 AP English classes. I only have 1 AP science class, and I only took 3 years of Spanish.

With that said, how much does UF put on academic rigor? Does UF consider your intended major with the classes you took in high school? For example, I plan on majoring in Business, Finance, or Accounting, so I took AP Statistics, AP Econ/Gov, 2 years of Marketing, and APHG instead of the classes mentioned above.

I did not see any reason why a Business major would need credits in Chemistry, Spanish, etc.

I have above average test scores for UF (2020 SAT, 33 ACT), I have pretty good EC's, and moderate academic rigor [31 classes, 9 AP (10 if Econ/Gov counts as 2), 15 Honors].

I don’y know much about UF (it is the opposite of everything I want in a college). But I will give some general information based on talking to my counselor. Not taking any form of chemistry will hurt you, most schools will want one year of bio, chem and physics. One AP science class should be OK, but it depends how many your school offers. Also three years of a language will hurt you (generally one should have four years of at least one language), that being said I don’t think UF is so competitive that it will be a huge deal.

I have heard different reasons for why schools prefer you taking all these classes. These reasons have included that they want you to be well-educated in a broad number of subjects, you might have take a language or specific science class in college to graduate and you are now unprepared for the class and that you might change your mind as to what your major is.

Hope this helps!

I took a tour of UF and live in Florida so I know some info about it. Because UF has so many applicants the main thing they look at is gpa and test scores. Your test scores are awesome. You didn’t say your gpa but your academic rigor is good. I think you have a good shot.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve only taken the SAT twice, so I’ll take it again in the fall and try to get around a 2100.

As for my GPA, I have a 3.9375 unweighted and a 4.9375 weighted (my school does +.04 for each honors and +.08 for each AP).

What do you guys think, taking AP econ/gov senior year with no chemistry class or taking honors econ/gov and honors chemistry? Which would be better for UF?

Take chem, some people struggle with the subject and it is good to take an into class in high school (otherwise when you take it in college it will be harder)…

…so you’d agree the first option looks better?

I have researched UF a lot an my sister almost went there before she decided to go to Rollins instead. UF does have interest in academics in the field you are going to major in, and it sounds like you have the right classes you have to get in. I also personally know quite a few people who didn’t take AP Chemistry and still got in. With your test scores and classes I don’t think you should have any problem getting in as long as your GPA is good and you write a good essay.

Which schedule looks better?

I think ap calc, ap eng lit, aice gp, ap econ/gov, chem hon, ast hon, and port 2 hon (combination of the two) seems like too hard of a schedule for me.
