Hi,

I am a female high school student who lives in the Chicago area. I am a junior, and thinking about the admissions process. My schools of interest include most of the Big 10 schools, but I am leaning towards UIUC (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) because of the great in-state tuition and overall academic quality.

To give a bit of background-
I am an honors student. My weighted GPA is around a 4.1, and my unweighted is anywhere from a 3.7 to a 3.9 (Depending how well I do this semester/first semester senior year). My Cs have been in Honors Chemistry freshman year, and Honors Precalculus this year. My B's have been in Honor's physics in a few of my Mandarin classes. I am a very strong student but struggle mostly in the honors math and science areas, as you can tell. At least the college I apply to will be able to see my motivation throughout my many Honors/AP classes taken. I will have been in Band for 4 years, and Mandarin Chinese for 4 years. (I am Caucasian) I play 2 instruments. I keep a blog with my cartoons, which I hope will get me noticed one day.

My current plan is to get a B.S. in Economics (I'm switching to regular A.B. calculus next year, taking regular and not honors math will help) with a minor in Mandarin Chinese/Math. I do enjoy math, but learn it at a slower level than most of my honors-track peers. My eventual plan is to go to business school at the University of Chicago and eventually work at a top consulting firm, where I can utilize my business and management skills (and hopefully my language!)

My ACT score, as of now, is a 33. I am taking my last ACT on June 8th, and I am quite confident that I can raise my score to a 34/35 due to previous individual sub-scores that I have received in the past.

My plan for this summer (between junior and senior year) is to prepare for my classes senior year so that I can get straight A's (I'm planning a heavy course load with AP economics, AP Calculus AB, Mandarin 4, AP Lit, etc) and working on improving my Mandarin skills. I will be working on my cartooning as well, which is a unique skill that I hope will get me noticed in the future.

What do you think my chances are of getting into UIUC? (I would be applying to the Liberal Arts and Science school for Economics)
