Could I get into Umich with a 3.5 overall GPA, track for two years, choir for 7 years, piano for 4 years, 2250 SAT, and 4 AP classes?

If you’re a MI resident … maaaaaaaybe. That GPA and perhaps lack of APs hurts you. If you’re OOS, then little hope.

Instate is a high match
OOS is a reach

“Instate is a high match” Nope. My kid goes to an in-state “feeder” HS with an amazing admit rate and is a nationally ranked (top 10) high school. Even with that, you need 3.6GPA.

Low reach

Your gpa is pretty low for UofM, and considering it is a state school, numbers are more important than anything else. Your SAT score is good, so that’s a plus (i think UofM avg is 2030). So, hopefully the 2250 could compensate for a low gap. How did u do on the ACT?

I think that you will probably get deferred in the winter because of your high SATs and then depending on what other applicants are in the pool they may accept you. Best of luck.

@ neurogirl97
mid 50 SAT for UMich is 2030-2250. So 2250 is at 75%.

GPA 3.5 is far below 25% for UMich even if it is uw. Also, OP’s EC is quite weak if he has nothing better to mention than piano for 4 years. I think the SAT score probably is not sufficient to make up for these deficits. Particularly, UMich values GPA very much. It would be a low reach for in state and reach for oos.

@billscho, I was not aware of that SAT range. I just went by what I found on the Princeton Review’s list of college SAT averages.

@vamigupta, I think you should take the ACT and try to get as close to perfect as you can. I do not know if this would salvage your low GPA for sure, but it is a chance I think you should take.

Are those AP’s including senior schedule? If they’re for the first three years, that’s fine. if that is including senior year, it’s light.

I think it would reach because of the lack of extracurriculars and a low GPA, but who knows you could still get it. :)

Chance me back?
